A Proven Design & Simple Assembly
The Tunnel House has been designed to make life as easy as possible for the grower. Even seemingly trivial details like the fixing of the flexible nylon mesh screens to the door frames have been carefully considered and engineered into the finished product.
The experiences gained from growing in Tunnel Houses for a few seasons have highlighted the importance of many things, for example a badly fitted flexible screen on the door openings is just like a welcome sign to Butterflies in summer and before long your ripening harvest will be savaged by caterpillars.
The Tunnel House is available in different lengths but all models have a spacious width of 4 metres and the ceiling height is a tall 2.3 metres. They have a timber cladded frame 400mm high running all the way around the structure and ground posts keep it totally secured. The timbers are sanded and stained for good looks and they are rated 50 years for outdoor use. The structure is joined together from a few premade assemblies and fixed with stainless steel screws.
The Tunnel House pictured is a 7.2 metre model and uses 200x50 Macrocarpa raised growing beds and also has one of our seed and potting tables. Each tunnel house kit comes as standard with 2 sets of nylon mesh screen roll up assemblies and 2 sets of Agphane roll up door curtains. These door assemblies feature timber base strips that latch on the door frame securely. With this system so you can adjust the temperature during the day or overnight. There is no automated venting, I have found that the Tunnel House works perfectly well during summer with the large openings and the roll up nylon mesh screens. After summer I fit the polythene door assemblies. You can have both types on at the same time also.
